Would you also like a sitting area with both television and a fireplace? But do not know how you could combine tv stands with fireplace? Or do you already have a fireplace and television in seating area but do you find that restless and not beautiful? I often see problems with combining television and hearth when I come to people’s homes for a short advice. And of course we also encounter them when we design complete interiors.
See if it is possible in your situation to place fire on same wall as TV. In this way you experience much less competition between two “peepholes”. Let shape of fireplace and TV deviate as much as possible. Because TVs are often a recumbent rectangle, you could opt for a long line or a narrow high hearth. Even more deviation occurs when television hangs and fireplace is loose in room or vice versa: fireplace is incorporated in wall but TV stands on a foot or pole in room.
Hide TV behind cupboard doors when you are not using it. But beware: make sure that these doors do not stand out too much next to fire. You could also hide fire if you do not use it … that is a less obvious solution and a bit more complicated to realize but certainly worth consideration.
